Week ending 10th September

This week we have been learning about the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have had a wonderful week and the children have enjoyed themselves greatly. The children have undertaken a variety of activities including the following:

Activity 1: Personal and Social Development
The children have been settling into school and setting their own targets. They have all been encourgaed to identify something that they wish to do in class this half term.

Activity 2: Creative Development
The children have been creating a wall display to accompany our 3Bears Kitchen role play area. They have painted bears, printed with sponges and experimented with mark making to create their own monoprint.
Activity 3: Mathematical DevelopmentThis week, the children have been helping to make porridge to feed the three bears. They have been looking at size- big, middle sizee and small and matching the bears 3 bowls and spoons. They have, also been investigating how many spoons of porridge they can fit into each bowl.

Activity 4: Language, Literacy and Communication
The children have listened to and enjoyed the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They have practised sequencing the key events and taking part in retelling the story through role play in the outside area.

Activity 5: Language, Literacy and Communication
The children have been involved in planning, designing and setting up the new 3 Bears Kitchen role play area. They have undertaken a wide variety of tasks including writing recipes for porridge, designing tableclothes and table mats, looking out all the play equipment relating to the story, creating a shopping list area and making labels to put up in the kitchen.
Activity 6: Knowledge and Understanding of the WorldUsing the kitchen area in the atrium, the children have all participated in making and tasting porridge.
The children have also been participating in a variety of other activities provided through the enhanced areas within the Unit. This includes sand play, water play, role play, dressing up, ICT, construction, investigating, music, collage, cutting and sticking, painting, playdough and clay, number, drawing, mark making, jigsaws, reading, enjoying books and listening to music. The children now have constant access to the outdoors environment and many activities take place outside. The children have access to obstacle courses, play house, slide and play frame, bikes and trikes.
